Keep Claude Code for the work. Deploy the skill as a team workflow.

Quick answer

Updated October 27, 2026. Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic coding tool, is the better choice for a person working with an agent, and its Team and Enterprise plans add shared plugins, usage analytics, audit logs and spend controls.[5, 18, 19, 20] Avalanche, a workflow runtime with a managed cloud, is the better choice when a skill becomes a process your team runs hundreds of times: a Claude Code session leaves a transcript you read one at a time, while every run of an Avalanche workflow keeps typed outputs at each step checkpoint, in one run history on Avalanche Cloud, so you can compare a step across runs and versions.[1, 41, 42] Avalanche Cloud also freezes each version, rolls back the whole workflow instantly with no rebuild, and retries a failed step without redoing finished ones, and Claude can stay the agent that calls the workflow.[41, 42]

Key takeaway

Choose Avalanche when a working skill should become a deployed, versioned workflow that any teammate's agent can call, with every run's step outputs in one place to inspect and compare.

Choose Claude Code when a person is working with an agent in a codebase, or sharing skills and plugins under Team or Enterprise policies.

  • Claude Code wins on hands-on work with an agent: reading, editing and running code with a person steering, from the terminal, IDE, desktop or web.
  • Avalanche wins on inspecting and comparing runs: every run keeps typed outputs at each step checkpoint, by workflow and version, so a step can be compared across many runs; a Claude Code run is a transcript of prompts, tool calls and results.
  • Avalanche wins on deployed workflow versions: Avalanche Cloud publishes a frozen, checksum-verified version with an id and offers instant rollback to any previous version, no rebuild; Claude Code versions plugin packages that each install updates.
  • Claude Code wins on full audit logs, the Compliance API and spend limits: Enterprise documents full audit logs and a Compliance API, and Team and Enterprise plans set spend controls; both sides offer SSO and organization roles, and Avalanche Cloud has no spend limits yet.

A transcript per session, or runs the whole team can inspect and compare

Claude Code is where a person and an agent do real work together, and Anthropic has added team sharing through repository skills and private plugin marketplaces.[2, 3] Avalanche works one level up: you set the few steps and checks that matter, agents do the work inside each step, and the result is a deployed workflow version the whole team calls. Because every run has the same steps, each run is structured data you can inspect and compare, not a transcript. Claude is one of the agents that calls it.

In Claude Code the unit of work is a session: a person, an agent, a repository. Skills, plugins and workflow scripts are files that each person's install loads, and each run leaves a transcript you read one at a time.[1, 4] In Avalanche the unit is a deployed workflow version. Avalanche Cloud freezes it, every run keeps typed outputs at each step checkpoint, and any teammate's agent, Claude included, calls the same version. With hundreds of runs of the same steps, you compare them the way data teams moved from one-off queries to managed transformations in a warehouse such as Snowflake or Databricks.[41, 42]

Where each one wins

Where Avalanche wins

  • Every run is data you can compare

A Claude Code session leaves a trajectory: prompts, tool calls and results. An Avalanche workflow records typed inputs and outputs at every step checkpoint, and Avalanche Cloud keeps every deployed run in one history by workflow and version. Compare a step across hundreds of runs to see which step fails, which outputs drift and what a new version changed.[1, 41, 42]

  • A deployed version, not a copy per install

Avalanche Cloud publishes each workflow as a frozen, checksum-verified version with its own id. Runs that already started keep the code and bundled dependencies they started on, while new runs use the new version. Instant rollback to any previous version of the whole workflow, no rebuild.[41]

  • Retry the failed step only

Every step is a checkpoint. When step three fails, the retry starts at step three and keeps the outputs and workspace files that earlier steps already produced.[42]

  • Owner approval before results go out

Place an owner's approval where it matters: the run waits for sign-off before results go out, then continues from that step. Claude Code dynamic workflows take no human input mid-run.[41, 1]

  • Agents and Python in one workflow

Typed agent steps and plain Python steps run in the same workflow, and agent steps can use PDF, Word and spreadsheet skills for document-heavy work.[40, 44]

  • From skill to workflow in one request

Install the Avalanche skill with npx skills add Trampoline-AI/avalanche, describe the outcome in Claude, and get a Python workflow your team reviews in git.[43]

  • Claude as a checkpointed step

Agent steps can run Claude through the Claude Agent SDK and load Agent Skills (SKILL.md), each sandboxed and checkpointed like any other step.[45, 46]

Where Claude Code wins

  • Hands-on work in a codebase

Claude reads files, edits code and runs commands while you steer, from the terminal, IDE, desktop app or browser.[26, 10]

  • Sharing through repos and plugins

Teams commit skills to .claude/skills/, publish private plugin marketplaces, and pin a plugin to a version or a git commit.[2, 3, 4]

  • Session history and analytics

/workflows shows each phase's prompts, results and tool calls, cloud scheduled tasks keep a run history with transcripts, and Team and Enterprise dashboards report usage and adoption.[1, 6, 18]

  • Audit logs, Compliance API and spend controls

Team and Enterprise plans add managed settings and spend controls; Enterprise adds SCIM, full audit logs and a Compliance API.[19, 20, 21]

  • Dynamic workflows for big one-off jobs

A workflow script can fan out many subagents for a codebase audit or a 500-file migration, with output schemas and saved agent results.[1]

  • Its own automation surfaces

Cloud scheduled tasks (research preview) run from a schedule, an API call or a GitHub event, and GitHub Actions run Claude in CI.[6, 8]

A transcript per session, or runs you can inspect and compare

Buyer question

Can we see every run of a skill across the team, and compare them?

Claude Code gives a person good visibility into their own work. /workflows shows each phase with agent prompts, results and tool calls; cloud scheduled tasks keep a run history with full transcripts; Team and Enterprise cloud sessions can be shared with the team; dashboards report usage, adoption and contributions; and OpenTelemetry exports events, with traces in beta.[1, 6, 10, 17, 18] What each run leaves is a trajectory, read one session at a time. The reviewed docs do not describe one history, across the organization, of typed step outputs per run.[1, 17]

An Avalanche workflow produces structured runs. Each step is a checkpoint with typed inputs and outputs, and Avalanche Cloud keeps every run of every deployed workflow in one run history, by workflow and version.[41, 42] Because the steps are the same on every run, you can open step three on one run, or compare step three across a thousand runs: which step fails most, which outputs drift, what a new version changed. The analogy is the shift data teams made from running one-off queries to managed transformations in Snowflake or Databricks.

Governance follows from that: one catalog of workflows, one version history and one run history across every teammate's agent, instead of skills copied between people and sessions. Avalanche Cloud adds its own controls: SSO, organization roles and per-action permissions, scoped, encrypted secrets, sandboxed steps and an audit trail of who promoted or rolled back each deployment. Claude Code still leads on full audit logs, its Compliance API and spend controls; Avalanche Cloud has no spend limits yet.[19, 20, 21, 41]

02

Claude Code already shares and governs. Here is what it shares.

Buyer question

Can a team share and govern Claude Code skills today?

Yes. Teams commit skills to .claude/skills/ in a repository, and a git repository with a marketplace file distributes plugins to the whole team. Team and Enterprise organizations can also sync plugins from private repositories under Organization settings, Plugins & skills.[2, 3, 5] Managed settings can require or block plugins, MCP servers, hooks and permissions, and the Team and Enterprise plans list SSO, spend controls and, on Enterprise, roles, SCIM, audit logs and a Compliance API.[19, 20, 21]

What those features share is a package that each person's install loads. A plugin update reaches a user only when its version string changes, and a plugin loaded from a local path reads the current files at every session start.[4] Anthropic's docs describe no deployed workflow artifact with its own id, no rule that keeps a running workflow on the version it started with, and no single run history across the team for one workflow version.[1, 4] That gap is the job Avalanche is built for.

What a deployed version adds

Buyer question

What happens to running work when someone changes the skill?

Cloud scheduled tasks in Claude Code normally clone the repository's current default branch for each run, and a run marked Succeeded means the session ended without a reported failure, not that the work was done.[6] That is reasonable for a person checking a transcript. It is harder when ten people's agents rely on the same process.

In Avalanche Cloud, a deploy freezes the workflow from committed source into a checksum-verified version with an id. Runs already in flight keep the code and bundled dependencies they started on; new runs use the new version. If a release goes wrong, instant rollback makes any previous version of the whole workflow live again with no rebuild, and promoting a version forward works the same way.[41] Avalanche Cloud is in early access through a waitlist.[47]

Two kinds of recovery

Buyer question

What happens when step three of a long run fails?

Claude Code dynamic workflows save completed agent results and reuse them when you relaunch the run from the same session. The docs are precise about the limit: if a script starts agents A, B, C and D and B fails, the relaunch returns A from cache and runs B, C and D again, even if C and D had finished. A fresh session starts over, and a workflow takes no human input mid-run; for sign-off between stages, Anthropic suggests a separate workflow per stage.[1] Separately, /rewind restores tracked file edits and conversation in a session.[7]

In Avalanche every step is a checkpoint. On Avalanche Cloud, a retry starts at the failed step and keeps the accepted outputs and committed workspace files of every step before it, so a document run that takes hours or days does not repeat work that already passed its checks. Where a result needs sign-off, the run waits for an owner's approval inside the same workflow instead of a separate workflow per stage.[41, 42] Agent steps declare typed outputs, and inline results are validated against that type before they reach the next step.[40]

Claude and Avalanche together

Buyer question

Can I keep using Claude with Avalanche?

Yes, and that is the intended setup. Today you install the Avalanche skill in Claude Code with npx skills add Trampoline-AI/avalanche, describe the outcome you want, and Claude writes the workflow as Python your team reviews in git.[43] Once deployed, the workflow is something Claude and every teammate's agent can call.

An agent step can also run Claude through the Claude Agent SDK, keeping its signature, typed outputs and tools, with the step itself checkpointed (pull request #124), and Agent Skills written as SKILL.md folders load inside those steps (pull request #136).[45, 46] This is our own integration work, not an Anthropic partnership.

Common questions.

Is Avalanche a replacement for Claude Code?
No. Claude Code is where a person works with an agent in a codebase.[26] Avalanche runs the repeatable, multi-step workflows that grow out of that work, as deployed versions any teammate's agent can call. Use both: Claude for the work, Avalanche for the workflow it calls.
Can a team share Claude Code skills without Avalanche?
Yes. Commit skills to .claude/skills/, or distribute plugins through a private marketplace pinned to a version or commit; Team and Enterprise admins can require or block plugins through managed settings.[2, 3, 4, 19] Avalanche adds a deployed workflow version with step checkpoints and one run history, which the Claude Code docs do not describe.[1, 4]
Can I see every run of a Claude Code skill across my team?
Partly. Cloud scheduled tasks keep a run history with transcripts, Team and Enterprise cloud sessions can be shared, and analytics report usage and adoption.[6, 10, 18] The reviewed docs do not describe one organization-wide history of typed step outputs per run.[1, 17] On Avalanche Cloud, every run of a deployed workflow keeps typed outputs at each step checkpoint, by workflow and version, so you can compare runs side by side.[41, 42]
Does Claude Code have versions and rollback?
For plugins, partly: a plugin carries a version, a marketplace entry can pin a git commit, and an owner can point back to an earlier commit.[4] The reviewed docs do not describe a deployed workflow version with an atomic switch or a rule that keeps in-flight runs on their version.[1, 4] Avalanche Cloud does both today, with instant rollback to any previous version from the CLI or console and no rebuild.
Can I turn a Claude Code skill into an Avalanche workflow?
Yes. Install the Avalanche skill with npx skills add Trampoline-AI/avalanche and ask Claude to turn your skill into a workflow; you get Python steps and agent steps you can review in git.[43] A SKILL.md skill can also run directly inside an agent step (pull request #136), and agent steps can run Claude through the Claude Agent SDK, with typed outputs, tools and a checkpoint per step (pull request #124).[45, 46] A Python step can call any SDK you install.
Is Avalanche open source?
The Avalanche runtime is open source under the MIT License; start with uvx avalanche-ai@latest init.[40] Avalanche Cloud, which adds deployed versions and managed runs, is in early access through a waitlist.[47]
Can I see which step changed a document?
Yes, on Avalanche Cloud. Every run gets a versioned workspace, and each step's changes are committed as a new version, so you can see which step produced or changed each file, compare versions and download any step's files.[41] Claude Code checkpoints track Claude's file edits within a session so you can rewind them, but changes made through Bash are not tracked and checkpoints do not replace version control.[7]
